I read nearly all of the translation of Azuma Hiroki’s 動物化するポストモダン：オタクから見た日本社会 (Otaku: Japan’s Database Animals) on the plane over to Tokyo. Very useful and thought-provoking book; I bought the original while in Tokyo and the sequel to read now that I’m back.

Friday, November 20th, 2009My lack of any photo posts during the last 48 hours is a sure sign of me being back in nashville recovering from not-so-bad jet lag. And also a sign that my 27-inch quad-core i7 2.80 GHz iMac has arrived and I’m involved in setting it up. That should be complete by the end of the day and photos of this beautiful monster will be posted. In short, it is pretty awesome — watching Fringe via Hulu last night demonstrated its potential as a TV substitute, even though we don’t watch much TV. But that could be changing soon….

In my attempt to use all my yen before leaving Japan I was faced with the challenge of finding something for ¥64 at the airport shopping mall. This “Wa Milky” matcha lollipop (which is going to my matcha- loving wife) cost me ¥42. I’m coming home with ¥22 in my pocket.
