I would have bought the DVD of Avalon, if not for customers complaining about the Miramax “bastardization” of it. I first came across the musical category of “emo” (as in emotional) in reference to the band Rainer Maria, although they seem far from the first wave of emocore as a subgenre of hardcore punk. Capote (2005, USA, DVD)

After having seen Capote now, I’ve seen 3 of the Best Picture nominees for 2005. I still like Crash best; I’ll (finally) watch Brokeback Mountain next. Philip Seymour Hoffman probably deserves the Best Actor Oscar he got, but I always question acting awards given for portrayals of real persons, especially those with distinctive traits. It [...]
