Daffodils
Every year the daffodils return. Despite neglect, construction, lawnmower accidents, trampling, and being in really crappy soil, they bloom. Like clockwork, harbinger of spring. Even when early spring frosts bite back, they survive. Their reliable, steady nature is comforting, brings hope. Daffodils don’t let you down. William Wordsworth thought them comforting too:
