The Study
One excuse I have for not being as productive as I would have liked over the past year (and I might as well add, the reason for less goyaposts) is that I don’t have a very good study space at home. Sara and I split a side of our bedroom for desks and bookshelves and with archival documents, research-related books, and general crap accumulating, you can imagine that it’s not real conducive to effective ergonomic study or the frame of mind necessary to have one believe oneself capable of writing something brilliant. Lame excuse, I know, but real. When it takes half a day simply to pull out archive folders and then I stub my toe on them every time I get up from my desk, something is wrong. That’s why we’ve decided on a major addition to our house–a bitchin’ study. Our architect, John TeSelle, showed us revised drawings today and I want it built tomorrow. I wish I had a PDF of the plans CAD drawings of it to post (I don’t have space to hook up a scanner!). It’s going to be a kind of 2-story tower (me on top, of course) with interesting window placements and built-in desks and bookshelves. We hope to get a contractor secured and building started sometime this fall. Once done, I’m certain to write a book a week….
